.She retrieved a set of keys andpushed a button on a tiny remote. The gateslowly swung open, allowing them entry to thelong paved drive.Adams brought the bike to rest in the center ofthe circular drive in front of an enormous frontdoor. She then killed the engine and allowedErin to carefully climb off the back."This doesn t look like a restaurant." She placedher hands on her hips, trying to sound stern."This your house?" She smoothed down thelegs of her jeans and stomped slightly, trying toget rid of the tingling sensation. She hoped J.R.could still hear her so the team would knowwhere they were. She didn t think Adamswould harm her, but she didn t want to let herguard down, no matter how disarming her sub-ject may be."Yep, come on in." Adams swung with ease offthe bike and removed the bandanna from herhead."I thought we were supposed to have dinner."Erin followed her up to the front door, remind-ing herself to act unimpressed."We are." She unlocked the door and walked in,motioning for Erin to wait on the landing."Ithought we could eat here, in privacy.""This isn t what I had in mind." She crossed herarms over her chest, acting displeased with thewool Adams was trying to pull over her eyes.Adistant beeping was sounding from inside thedoor and Erin waited and listened as Adamspunched in an alarm code and then spoke tosomeone. She came back into view wearing a grin andErin had to remind herself to stay annoyed atthe strikingly beautiful woman."Can you blame me if I wanted your attentionall to myself?" She raised her eyebrow and mo-tioned for Erin to walk into the house.Erin did as requested and walked into the spa-cious home with her arms still crossed defiantlyover her chest.Adams closed the door behindthem and Erin began looking around, taking inthe expensively decorated home.A growl gother attention and she looked down as two mas-sive, black Doberman s trotted into the room tostand in front of her. They were both eyeingher, their heads lowered, their teeth showing.Erin immediately stood very still, glad that shehad arms crossed over her chest."No boys." Adams stood next to Erin, her voicedeep and commanding."Friend." Immediatelythe dogs began wagging their tails and trottingexcitingly around Erin."It s ok, they won t hurt you."Adams was scratching them on their heads andErin took a breath and let her hands fall to hersides. The dogs licked her hands and tried tonuzzle them, urging her to scratch their short, sleek fur.Her fear fading fast, she gave in to herlove for animals and began affectionately pet-ting the dogs."What re their names?" They walked deeperinto the house, the dogs close on their heels.Adams turned and pointed to the larger of thetwo dogs."That s Zeus." The dog ran up to her in re-sponse to its name."And that one s Aries."Adams patted both dogs firmly on their back-sides."On watch." She commanded and pointedback to the front door. The dogs halted theirplay and ran off to guard the front door."You re into Greek mythology then?" Erin ques-tioned as she looked around.Adams fondnessfor the Greeks was evident in more than just thenames she had chosen for her dogs. The housewas decorated in whites and light earth toneswith various statues and busts of Greek godsand goddesses.Large tapestries depicted athriving Athens, while expensive silk drapeshung in layered form, framing huge picturewindows which allowed for a breathtakingview of the valley below."You might say that. How about a drink?" Sheled them into the kitchen where she retrievedtwo glasses without waiting for Erin to answer. She plucked ice from the stainless steel freezerand looked at Erin, awaiting her permission be-fore continuing."Sure." Erin returned her wandering gaze backto Adams. She was in awe of the house andcompletely confused as to where dinner wasgoing to appear from.As if reading herthoughts, Adams poured their drinks and an-swered Erin s questions."Dinner should be here any minute now.I hopeyou like what I ordered." She filled their glasseswith sloe gin and orange juice, topping them offwith a splash of grenadine."Here you go, a sloescrew."Erin took the drink and sipped at it, enjoying itsflavor."Very funny."Adams grinned her heart stopping grin."Ithought you might like that." She walkedaround the kitchen counter and took Erin shand."Come on, I ll show you the backyard."They walked out through large French doorsand into the darkness of the mountainsidebackyard.Adams grabbed a remote controlfrom just outside the door and pushed severalbuttons, bringing the back yard to life.Accent lights came on, casting the queen palmsand other vegetation in a warm glow.A largepool sat in the center of the spacious yard, itswater brewing in alternating colors of purple, blue and green against its stony sides.A water-fall began running down the slabs of stone be-tween the pool and its adjoining spa.The entireyard had the look and feel of a desert oasis, snuggled against the mountainside. An elaborate chime sounded and Erin heard thedogs barking from inside the house."That must be dinner." Adams handed Erin theremote."Feel free to find us some music." Shetrotted off back inside the house, leaving Erinalone and confused as to how to use the con-traption in her hand. She walked over to theedge of the pool and sat down in one of thedeck chairs. She heard a loud flapping noiseand was soon greeted by the two Doberman s asthey ran towards her from their dog door.Bothgreeted her with kisses and settled at her sides."How do you work this thing guys?" Shelooked at the heavy box in her hand and beganpushing one button at a time. The first few but-tons were wired to the lighting system in theyard and in the pool
